Gastritis is an inflammatory disease characterized by weakening of the lining of the stomach which is known medically as the gastric mucosa. This type of inflammation results naturally when its integrity is breached by any agent. Even though it is natural, the weakened integrity is what leads to the signs and symptoms. The lesions that result from this process may be chronic or acute and therefore gastritis can be classified on that basis.
