The active substances found in this plant are a furocumarin (a photo-sensitizer) known as "bergaptene" (one of the most commonly used photosensitizing  agents in the treatment of leucodermas such as : achromia, vitiligo and other skin disorders). This substance is present in the roots,  bark and in the unripe fruit.
